GMC revives classic Hummer yellow for new EV

The 2027 GMC Hummer EV lineup will introduce a 25th anniversary edition called the Hummer EV Icon 25, paying homage to the original Hummer H2 that debuted in 2002. Available as both an SUV and a pickup truck, the special edition features a yellow paint color inspired by the first-generation H2, along with other heritage-inspired details.

Yellow paint and black accents recall the original H2

The Icon 25 edition is available only with the 2X or 3X trim levels, both of which deliver up to 1,000 horsepower from the Hummer EV’s all-electric powertrain. The yellow “Icon” paint color mimics the shade of the original H2. The black-painted bumper shield pairs with a Jet Black interior color theme. Along with a serialized badge on the dashboard, the electric Hummer’s infotainment system includes drive-mode animations that reference the heritage version.

Production will take place later this year at GM’s Factory Zero Assembly Center in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan. While GMC hasn’t released pricing, a photo of the serialized badge suggests only 250 examples will be built.

2027 Hummer EV lineup adds Tesla Supercharger compatibility

For the 2027 model year, all Hummer EVs will come standard with Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, granting access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. The NACS port supports bidirectional charging, a feature that allows the vehicle to supply power back to the grid or a home. This capability is enabled through GM Energy’s PowerShift Charger and the Energy V2H Enablement kit, which must be installed separately.

GMC has also expanded the paint options for 2027, adding Azurite Blue, Dark Ember, Dark Ridge, Deep Void Matte, and the Icon yellow.

The Hummer EV’s size remains unchanged, meaning it still occupies more than its fair share of road space. For those who remember the H2’s debut at the 2002 Los Angeles auto show, the Icon 25 might feel like a nod to a different era. The original H2 was powered by a 6.0-liter V-8 engine producing 316 horsepower, while the Hummer EV generates up to 1,000 horsepower from its electric motors. Despite these differences, both vehicles share a common philosophy: they prioritize capability and presence. Pricing details for the lineup, including the Icon 25 edition, will be announced before the vehicles arrive at dealerships.
