George Russell secured a win in the Sprint Race at the Dutch Grand Prix, marking a strong start to the second half of the Formula 1 campaign. The event, held at Zandvoort, was the first time the Sprint Race was held at the circuit, which will discontinue hosting the event after 2026.
The race was characterized by cool and cloudy conditions, with a downpour occurring just seconds after the 24-lap race was completed. Russell was untroubled up front, converting his pole position into victory.
Russell’s win was marked by a lack of significant action, with the only notable incident being Charles Leclerc passing Lando Norris two-thirds of the way through the race. Kimi Antonelli jumped Oscar Piastri on the opening lap for fourth place and gave chase to Norris but was unable to seriously threaten him.
Antonelli’s result enabled him to extend his title advantage over Lewis Hamilton to 53 points. Russell is now 56 points behind his Mercedes teammate, Hamilton. Max Verstappen, the home favorite, classified a subdued sixth.

Alpine had readied its upgrades earlier than anticipated, albeit only on Pierre Gasly’s car, and he made good use of them to grab the final point for eighth place.
Lando Norris rebounded from losing a spot in the Sprint Race by capturing pole position for Sunday’s grand prix. Norris clocked a lap time of 1:11.163s, making it back-to-back pole positions, following his supreme display last time out in Hungary.
Norris’ effort was 0.102s quicker than Russell, with Antonelli clocking the third-best time, just thousandths ahead of the sister McLaren of Piastri. Ferrari was adrift of the pole position shootout, leaving Hamilton and Leclerc to share the third row of the grid.
The Red Bull pair of Verstappen and stand-in Liam Lawson locked out the fourth row. The qualifying session took place in dry conditions, just minutes before rain struck Zandvoort, adding an extra layer of complexity to the teams’ strategies.
