The creation, named the “Volksrod,” was assembled by veteran customizer Ray Ramsay, who dismantled the original chassis and reassembled it with an unorthodox, rule-breaking vision.
The Beetle’s roof now sits 14 inches lower than stock, its front axle pushed 10 inches forward, and the engine mounted 6 inches higher—yet it remains powered by its original 1.3-liter twin-port flat-four. Ramsay’s design rejects all norms: the headlights and speedometer nest inside a champagne bucket, a vintage movie camera (acquired for under $2) is embedded in the dashboard, and a commercial fryer’s spider strainer forms part of the driver’s seat.
