With Halloween just around the corner, many people are visiting pumpkin patches across Britain to pick the perfect pumpkin for carving. This year’s Halloween coincides with school half-term in many parts of the UK, and interest in themed days out has increased significantly, with internet searches rising by 3,100 percent over the last three months.

Google searches for maize mazes have jumped by 831 percent in the last quarter, while Halloween trails have recorded an 860 percent rise in interest. As people prepare for the holiday, the AA is warning drivers to secure their pumpkins properly to avoid accidents.

Lee Morley of the AA states that drivers must secure their load, maintain proper control of their vehicle, and have a full view of the road. Failing to do so can result in three penalty points and a fine of up to £1,000. They recommend putting pumpkins in the boot and resisting the temptation to place them in footwells, where they can roll under the pedals.

Placing pumpkins into boxes or bags can also help prevent them from rolling around and affecting the car’s handling. The AA has compiled a list of the best places to pick pumpkins across the UK, analyzing 370 pumpkin patches based on factors such as average Google review score, Instagram and TikTok hashtags, and adult entry price.

Hatter’s Farm in Essex emerged as the overall winner, followed by Doddington Hall in Lincolnshire and Stockeld Park in North Yorkshire. These pumpkin patches offer a range of attractions, including maize mazes and pumpkin cannons. Lee Morley advises people to choose a patch that suits their needs and to pack their pumpkins properly to avoid a difficult journey home.

By taking simple precautions, drivers can ensure a safe and enjoyable trip home with their pumpkins.

The AA’s guidelines for transporting pumpkins are straightforward: secure the load, maintain control of the vehicle, and ensure a clear view of the road. By following these guidelines, drivers can minimize the risk of accidents and enjoy the Halloween season without any issues. The AA’s efforts to promote safe driving practices during the holiday season are a key part of their mission to keep roads safe.
